After testing various finishes like anodized gold, silver,
and anthracite on the platter, which is made of a special
aluminum alloy, the best quality in the end was the
hand-polished finish, also the most expensive solution.
Attention to detail by Da Vinci may result in longer
production time, but one is assured of quality.
A
real 24 carat gold plated version of the platter is
available, however, which entails a lot of work - layering a
copper coating, hand-polishing,
a silver coating,
hand-polishing, and finally the
24-carat gold layer. All this work is due to
the nature of the alloy used for the platter, it's not just
another metal. Price will depend on current gold
prices.
Even the bearing is also specially finished, for both sonic
and aesthetic reasons. At the moment, only one man in
Switzerland does this special treatment.
