Valeriy Kuchkovskyy

AUDOLICI

Valeriy Kuchkovskyy is the CEO of AUDOLICIFor the past 20 years, he has developed audio-technique devices and prototypes, most of them used in Europe and the former USSR.  His research and experience in the audio field allowed him to build a new philosophy for the construction of excellent sound reproduction equipment.

This philosophy is an actual contribution for the audio design theory, including new methods, technical solutions and know-how, for achieving high standards of specifications for the tube audio amplifiers.

In order to consistently ensure the improvement and introduction of new technologies and products in the future, AUDOLICI works together with INESC Porto in Portugal, a world-class Research & Development institution with remarkable audio expertise.

This R&D capacity is available for the creation of exciting new products with superb audio quality.

Superb tube integrated amplification ... thanks to UK distributor Definitive Audio of Living Voice fame, and AUDOLICI for the recommendation.

Check out the AUDOLICI Swing integrated amplifier at our showroom, in white finish, a lovely retro-look.

50 watts of  Svetlana 6550 valve driven power, sufficient for a wide range of loudspeakers.  An all-rounder one-box amplifier for all seasons, a beautiful balance of power and subtlety.

Experience the soundstage, wonderful detail, and natural rendition of timbral texture through excellent uncompressed tube amplification ... reasonably priced.

Audolici Swing 50

Audolici Swing 50

Audolici I-50 Integrated Amp Series

The Audolici I-50 series is the result of 20 years of audio engineering experience.

The idea was born from the unfortunate reality that the majority of today's valve amplification designs lack the legendary character of valves.

Audolici's objective is to restore the typical character of 60/70's valve designs coupled with modern innovations.

Audolici manages to achieve the legendary vintage sound, yet faster, more detailed and extended in frequency response than vintage Luxman or Dynaco designs.

This result was achieved through the incorporation of Valeriy's own ideas on the amplification process.

Most classic valve amplifiers use strong current “heavy” output valves : 12BH, 6884, ECC85, ECC88 and similar. This is almost a trademark in all valve designs of the last 40 years.

These current heavy valves make it very difficult to achieve speed because they are heavy for the power supply.

We use a different philosophy: to relieve the behavior of the output valves by matching them with other types of driver valves, 6N1P and 6N2P Russian New Old Stock military standard valves.

We match these driver valves with Russian New Old Stock 6L6 valves for the “Jazz” model, and also with Russian modern valves, EL34's from “Electro-Harmonix” for the “Blues” model and 6550 from Svetlana for the “Swing”.

With these combinations, we are making it easy for the power supply, increasing it's integration time for peak signal.

This is a small part of the secret to achieve transient response speed. We also use modern technology in the production of our own transformers.

Our transformer cores achieve a more effective induction for the same size/weight, thus delivering extended bass response and dynamics than conventional transformers. They also present a very low parasitic induction factor.

Many amplifiers lose dynamics, soundstage, frequency response because of primitive switching. This is why we keep our designs  simple (two inputs on the I-50 integrated).  We also use a proprietary special relay switching circuit for the purpose: Audolici I-50 selector.

Furthermore, we use high quality components like carbon resistors, polypropylene capacitors, ALPS potentiometers and our own networking cabling, all contributing to Audolici's highly detailed and uncompressed sound.

"Swiss audiophiles DaVinciAudio Labs have created a unique reference turntable that produces incredibly accurate sound reproduction. Hefty cylinders, one for the motor, one for the turntable and one for the 12-in tonearm (you can have up to four, each tailored to a different style of music), sit on custom-turned feet, with silent magnetic bearings reducing extraneous noise to nearly nothing.

This gorgeous Ferrari red is one of a variety of colours available, and you can specify your tonearm 24ct gold-plated, adding to the whopping 313lb weight of this mighty music machine."

 AAS Gabriel Model 3 Monument

With a Da Vinci turntable system gracing one's home, any version, its luxurious looks will certainly bring a sense of high-quality art into any residence, and will be a testament to the owner's first-rate taste.  A Da Vinci turntable system is not just another banal, average machine passing off as art.  Beautiful form and function are combined to produce a deluxe work of art, proudly made in Switzerland, with full attention to quality. Best of all, it sounds superb.

Da Vinci turntables are available as a Luxury Edition in car colour finish and 24k gold-plated platter.  Below is the AAS Gabriel Monument model, with 4 tonearms, in a popular Ferrari red car finish.

The real 24 carat gold plated version of the platter entails a lot of work - layering a copper coating, hand-polishing, a silver coating, hand-polishing, and finally the 24-carat gold layer.  All this work is due to the nature of the alloy used for the platter, it's not just another metal.  Price will depend on current gold prices.

The car colour version (e.g. Ferrari Red, Bugatti Blue, Lamborghini Orange, etc.) may be ordered without the gold platter.

Kondo Souga 2A3 Power Amplifier

The Kondo KSL-Neiro 2A3 power amplifier has been discontinued and replaced

with the new Souga 2A3 Power Amplifier.

Similar to the KSL-Neiro but comes with SILVER OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS. This 8 watt amplifier

can be ordered (or changed internally) to 4 or 8 Ohms. The 4 Ohm tap is especially good for some

harder loading speakers, such as those with impedances lower than 8 Ohm.

The driving power of the SOUGA is much improved over the KSL-Neiro.

The New Kondo LPz Interconnect Cable

Kondo's Most Special Cable Yet

Kondo ... they practically built the house on silver cables and components.  Kondo has stood the test of time, with Kondo's amplifiers having a lifetime warranty for the first owner.

Kondo silver cables are superb ultimate references like their amplifiers, benchmarks by which others are based.

Kondo silver cables are not like the rest that sound very impressive at first listening with lots of detail, but eventually sound hard as one listens longer.  Some silver cables are also ultra-smooth, and totally lacking in dynamics, definitely low fidelity.

Kondo cables do not exhibit these anomalies.

Kondo LPz Interconnects

The KSL-LPz has two main improvements over the original LPz.

We have introduced a helically wound silk spiral around the core conducting wires.  This acts as a separator between the coated silver wires and the cable insulation. The silk provides not only good chemical buffering but also improves the acoustic properties of the final cable.

The KSL-LPz also features a new combination of litz conductor diameters, selected by careful listening tests and empirical research.

The final result is our most special cable yet - offering greater clarity, a more extended response and more musical freedom than ever before.

Artemis Labs SA-1 Turntable

Made in USA by Artemis Labs,

designed by Frank Schroder of Germany

Feed Forward Circuit designed by John Atwood,

former technical editor of The Vacuum Tube Valley journal

"I’d say, in general, that the Artemis Labs SA-1 would be a turntable for discerning music lovers rather than for audiophiles questing for a component that would reveal utter details like the smack of lipstick on a wet pair of lips. Yet I never got a generalized slurry of mood or presentation; instead, the SA-1 delivered an articulate brocade of audio precision, each note there to be recognized, both in its individual gleaming and also its intricate interweave with the entire musical tapestry.

The opposite of analytic, it was all about flow, solidity, coherence, and timing, rather than flattering the fantasy of measurable micrometers of detail.

In talking with Sean Ta of Artemis Labs, I joked that, to maintain my credibility as an audio reviewer, I was looking very hard for negatives and drawbacks to write about. So far, I hadn’t come up with any.

The SA-1 won me over. The charming simplicity of its look, the complete ease of its operation, and the accuracy and fabulous tonality of its sound -- all came together to make for entirely pleasurable, unfussy musical experiences."

"If you are into bling and wish to impress your friends with a 1,000 lb chrome covered turntable that requires the manufacturer to install it on your site, the SA-1 is not for you. If you want to spend your time listening to music rather than fiddling with your turntable, you need to give the SA-1 a listen."

To my ears, the SA-1 is as quiet as a direct drive. It has excellent speed stability. It doesn't take up a lot of space in your listening room, which for those of us with smaller listening rooms is important.

The SA-1 is very easy to set up and once set up you can forget about it.

And most importantly, the SA-1 allows the emotional content of the music to come through to you."

From the mind of Frank Schroder, maker of some of the most highly sought after tonearms by analog enthusiasts in the world today.  Everyone also knows it will take years to get a tonearm.  In the case of the SA-1 turntable, manufacturing is entrusted to Artemis Labs from Southern California, USA, and lead-time is only approximately 3 weeks, not 3 years or more !

The Artemis Labs SA-1 turntable is a unique design among modern turntables, and the SA-1 turntable performs way beyond its price, designed to surpass contenders in the USD 20,000 region.  And our experience (and yours) have proven that higher prices indeed do not automatically equate to significantly superior sonic quality, although there are a few exceptions.

Clients ask us to expound more on the Da Vinci's magnetic bearing.  Basically, the concept is similar to an inverted bearing.  Instead of a bearing ball, repelling magnets are built into the bearing and in the receptacle where the bearing goes into (under the platter).  In effect, the platter "floats" on a cushion of air.

Will the magnet affect the cartridge ?  Not at all, of course, it's all taken care of by the turntable designer.  One advantage of a magnetic bearing is that the 24kg platter will not be charged. Thus, noise transmission is largely avoided.

With the super smooth bearings of both the cartridge and the turntable, we have a superlatively designed music machine.

The Da Vinci Grandezza Grand Reference tonearm

"This 12" transcription tonearm is a genuine work of audio art.  A gorgeous concoction of tone wood, wolfram, platinum- or gold-plated bronze and stainless steel (with its jewel of a double-gimbaled ruby bearing assembly made for Da Vinci by an ultra-high-end Swiss clockmaker), it is a thing of indescribable loveliness, and sounds as wonderful as it looks.  As neutral and as nearly invisible as air, it is a truly transparent tonearm, capable of revealing tremendous detail with tremendous energy, within a tremendously large, beautiful laid-out soundstage.  Costly, but worth it, the Grandezza is the best pivoted arm Jonathan Valin has heard or used."

- The Absolute Sound (TAS) Editors' Choice 2008

Well, the Grandezza Grand Reference tonearm just got even better !

* Announcing the new Lavardin Preamplifiers

Lavardin Model C62

EUR 4470

The Lavardin Model C62 replaces the previous PRE6/2.  Similar in cosmetics to the previous PRE6/2, the C62 offers a more refined, natural presentation with even more insight into detail.

The Model C62 is designed to match Lavardin power amplifiers.  This may be matched with other brands of power amplifiers.  However, if one does not intend to use a Lavardin power amplifier in the future, the Lavardin Model C42 (EUR 3350) is recommended instead.  This is a more general design, but will certainly prove to be an upgrade against many other high-end preamplifiers.

Lecontoure Loudspeakers

The brainchild of Lavardin Technologies designers, this new brand of high-performance loudspeakers from France has now produced a standmount speaker model designed for smaller rooms.

The new standmount model Mobile 160 was designed by demand for on-location monitoring during classical music recordings.  It uses the same size of drive units as the bigger Stabile 160, including a double ring tweeter, a front 160mm mid/bass driver and a back 210mm low bass driver.

The cabinet is completely made of 20mm plywood and the back sports a massive "regulator" plate made of 30mm high density MDF.

The Mobile 160 allow amazing deep bass to be reproduced with perfect fluidity even when the speaker is positioned near the rear wall.

Horning Hybrid Loudspeakers

Horning Eufrodite

Sonic and musical performance as a whole is our top priority when evaluating a system, and the Horning speakers deliver with aplomb. We agree with one review, to quote - "you hear the sound, but you also feel it all around you. It doesn't stay put in front by the speakers, but kind of envelopes the listener."

Most visitors who have listened at length to the Horning Eufrodite MK3 loudspeakers have a common question - what makes them deliver excellent bass quality - texture, definition, resolution ?

Of course, bass is not everything, but the Horning's bass quality indeed can catch one's attention, especially since these Horning speakers are of the high sensitivity horn design family.  One visitor thought we were driving them with hundreds of watts, but we were actually only using a parallel single-ended 20-watt tube amplifier.

We are very particular about bass quality, and we would rather have a system with high quality bass than high quantity, average quality. A lot of music are enhanced with the presence of bass or percussion instruments, driving along the rhythm - jazz, vocals, country, rock, classical, etc. - it's just inescapable.

We are certainly pleased with the Horning speakers' bass performance in both quality and quantity, never lumbering behind the other parts of the sonic spectrum, which includes output from the very fast heavily modified Lowther midrange drivers.

Horning AgalmeWe noted that Tommy Horning, designer of the Horning Hybrid range of products, shared our sentiments. To quote him - "Our starting point was the outstanding dynamics and excellent bass impulse response of the horn, an ideal basis for mid and high fundamentals."

Besides the patented quarterwave loading system, what also contributes to the excellent bass is the proper implementation of several short-throw bass drivers in parallel on a Horning loudspeaker.  This results in minimal bass driver movement which means much lower distortion.  The cabinet is also undamped, and is an acoustic transformer by itself, and with the minimal reflections, one can position the speakers much closer to the wall.

The Lowther driver (normally full-range, but transformed into a midrange driver in Horning speakers) really needs no introduction,  and it has been heavily modified by Tommy Horning to enhance its performance.  For many who are used to more mainstream drivers, of whatever material - ceramic, rubber, diamond, etc. -, it may take some getting used too.  A good Lowther driver is like a wide open window, no artificial sweeteners - its main characteristics are "speed, high sensitivity, detailed reproduction, dynamics, and transparency (even at low levels), immediacy.   It can give you the feeling that the musicians are more present ... lifelike."

The tweeter is Tommy's own design, an uncommonly used cone tweeter.

The best thing that we like about the Horning speakers are the way they inject new life into records (audiophile or non-audiophile mastering) previously thought of as sounding "flat".  The Horning speakers guarantee rediscovery of one's album collection.

We can go on describing the sound or the design, but we would rather have you drop by and listen ... and they are still getting better each day.

For more insight into the design details of a Horning loudspeaker, Marshall Nack of Positive Review described it very well in his review of the Horning Agathon Ultimate speakers.  Click Me! to read more about it ...

Phonograph

Do they still make phonographs ?

Yes, they do, although they are more commonly called turntables these days.

We still consider sound from records through well-matched good turntable systems and phono stages at the top of the sonic chain (in addition to the archaic tape reel), after listening to some of the best CD players around, from $200 to $90k++.  And our reference were merely $3000 to $5000 turntables.  This is not on the technical merit, but on the overall musicality and soul, and the realism of the timbre and tonality.

It used to be that a system was incomplete without a CD player.  But time is fickle, and the best systems in the world now have a turntable as their primary source ... Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, France, etc.  This time, a system without a turntable seems incomplete ...

And if we listen to a system without a turntable, we know that the sound quality is hugely compromised and surely can even be much better, if not for the sake of convenience.  Of course, this convenience is also a huge plus for CD players, and may be a bigger factor than ultimate sonic quality to many.

Then again, having a turntable setup does not guarantee high quality.  Proper matching and setup are paramount to get the best out of them, these are not plug and play music tools.  We can help customers through this, it's not rocket science like many will have you think so.  In fact, many of our customers have managed to adjust their analog systems on their own effectively after some time.

Music - From a line in Much Ado About Nothing where Benedick is watching people listening to a lute player, and says "Now divine air ! Now is his soul ravished ! Is it not strange that sheep's guts should hale souls out of men's bodies?"

"Musicality - The most important aspect of the musical presentation.  Musicality isn't any specific quality that we can listen for, but the musical satisfaction the system provides.  Our sensitivity to musicality is destroyed when we focus on a certain aspect of the presentation; i.e., when we listen critically.  Instead, musicality is the gestalt, the whole of our reaction to the reproduced sound.  We also use the term involvement to describe this oneness with music.  Ultimately, musicality - not dissecting the sound - is what high-end audio is all about." - Robert Harley, The Complete Guide To High-End Audio
