- ICED EARTH have returned
with a vengeance! With "The Glorious Burden," the legendary US heavy
metal band have delivered one of the true heavy metal gems of 2004: an
epic and conceptual tour-de-force that showcases the riff-mastery of Jon
Schaffer and the vocal prowess of former Judas Priest singer Tim
"Ripper" Owens.
- "Both
speak of Peterson's incredible virtuosity, and the seamlessness of the
trio. Both compliments are certainly deserved, but the excessive
laudation does get in the way of appreciating a truly fantastic
recording. That's not to say that the music is not well above par. It
certainly is."
- ALL RISE!!! . Probot is upon
us and it’s far more than anyone could have ever expected; an all-star
performance record of monumental proportions. The songs on the Probot
album were mostly written by Grohl. He then sent out these recordings to
all of his favorite metal vocalists from a specific period of time in
underground metal (83 to '90,) Each song features its own throat and
Grohl also had help from a few other dudes (Kim Thayill of Soundgarden
lays a blistering solo down on the King Diamond track, Bubba Dupree from
Void is on the Mike Dean track. etc...)
"I
have literally thousands of heavy metal albums from Black Sabbath,
Motorhead, Megadeth, Matallica, Slayer, Manowar, Pantera, Venom,
Anthrax, and dozens upon dozens of others, and ROORBACK is an album that
has enthralled me from the very beginning and I simply can't get enough
of it."
- "the so-called "band of the
'80s" was capable of blazing into the '90s by replacing its flag-waving
arena-rock stance with screaming synths, clubby rhythms, and industrial
skronk. ..."
"The moody ballad "One" is arguably the finest song the band has
produced, full of sorrow, compassion, and hope all at the same time."
Underworld's electronica 1994 debut,
Dubnobasswithmyheadman, is still regarded by many as one of the best
techno/electronica music of all time.
- "Extended
to over an hour, it's a long and seductive hypnosis session, a decadent
film noir journey through dark impulses and impure thoughts. Vocalist
Karl Hyde provides a monotonous, stream-of-consciousness narrative
which, when chopped and rearranged, reveals a quintessentially British
reserve that keeps the album mysterious. This is functional music,
perfect for driving and, ahem, other repetitive activities."
